Remember rappers like Big L, who would spit about killing kids to death with wooden blocks, snuffing Jesus, and preaching the word of the devil? L was a voice for the twisted and demented youth of the 90s, and in the midst of all this bubblegum pop rap that’s been around, sinister and messed up figures like that haven’t really existed (except for Eminem, but even he’s gone soft). Then Tyler The Creator and his Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) crew came out with a mixtape calledBastard and awoken us all to the gruesome reality their music provoked. If you were sickened, but impressed, with Bastard, then “Yonkers,” Tyler’s first single from his forthcoming Goblin LP, is perfect for you.
The video is utterly disturbing, for lack of a better word, the bass heavy, synth riddled beat is sick, and Tyler’s harsh words are a startling tribute to oldschool rappers that would “fuck money, diamonds and bitches, don’t need them.” To reiterate, this is some highly disturbing shit, but it’s poignant as fuck.
