It takes a confident artist to cover any song from the iconic Stevie Wonder. But if there’s anyone who has the guts to do it – without a doubt it would be Kanye West.
This past Tuesday, Yeezy took the stage at a benefit show hosted at The MoMa in NYC – for what some has called one of the most somber – yet exciting performances of his career. He surprisingly opened up his set with a cover of Stevie’s stately and powerful, “They Won’t Go When I Go” (off his 1974 Fulfillingness’ First Finale album), which he last performed atMichael Jackson’s funeral two years ago.
Although Kanye used a little auto-tune effects to enhance his vocals – considering the songs lyrical content and given all that he’s been through, this was a pretty suitable fit for him and overall he did a dope job. Check it out.
