Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Merrill Garbus perform live knows that her music is even more compelling in person and that she has the strength to command an entire theater with her voice. Her recent LP under the tUnE-yArDs moniker, w h o k i l l, has been praised by anyone who has listened to it, and we’ve been fortunate to hear various live sessions, including an indomitable acoustic set of “Doorstep” in Paris courtesy of Le Hippo.
The singer/songwriter has recently stopped by Yours Truly to record a session of album cut “You Yes You,” which showcases her powerful and sui generis vocal stylings, backed with some enthusiastic accompaniment, Garbus herself strumming ferociously on her guitar.
There’s also a short interview with her at the beginning where she discusses the origin of w h o k i l l. Check it out.
