On June 28, Rave On Buddy Holly, a tribute album to the rock and roll icon, will be released. We’ve heard a large chunk of the album already, with tracks from Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Julian Casablancas, Florence + the Machine and Fiona Apple. Today we get to add another notch on our list, this time it’s a cutesy cover from AM sweethearts, She & Him.
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward take on The Crickets’ “Oh Boy” (a song not actually written by Buddy Holly) from their 1958 album The “Chirping” Crickets. As most of the artists working on this tribute have, She & Him have taken liberty in the cover and matching it with their aesthetic, which is decidedly not a whole lot different than Holly’s own. If anything, it’s just a tad twangier.
