Things have certainly changed since Scott Mescudi a.k.a. Kid Cudi released his sophomore album, The Man On The Moon II: The Return Of Mr. Rager last year, which blended stoner hip hop, and melancholy electronica with his signature crooning. If you’ve been following his tweets then you know that he’s announced that he has given up narcotics, even the weed, and that his next album will be more rock influenced. For the record, a rock-inspired album fromCudi makes a lot more sense than one from Lil Wayne.
He’s just released a new song called “Perfect Is The Word” that he’s giving away as a free download, tweeting “Enjoy, King Wizard.” While the song is not a ‘rock’ song per se, it does distinguish itself from what he’s been putting out; you can certainly hear the guitar riffs and distorted sounds that accompany his vocals.
Cudi also, interestingly enough, has just released a new video for the Return of Mr. Rager song “Marijuana,” which you can view below. Judging by this video, Cudi has entirely not given up the pretty green bud, but perhaps it was shot before he quit? The video was directed, shot and edited by Shia LaBeouf.
