The tropical island sensation that is Jamie xx‘s “Far Nearer” was first posted in October of last year when a radio ripped version leaked. Now the prolific DJ/producer has dropped the official, surprisingly lengthy (just over 8 minutes!) track, that concentrates on steel drums, dubstep rhythms and offbeat drum patterns. Jamie premiered it when he took over the BBC 6 Mix, using the opportunity to play tunes from artists like Drake, Burial, and RJD2, as well as playing new cuts from his recently released reworking of Gil Scott Heron’s I’m New Here, dubbed We’re New Here, and also a cover of Rui Da Silva’s “Touch Me,” performed with Yasmin. “Touch Me” is an impressive one, transforming the 2001 club crazed original to one that fit’s with today’s current minimalist and dancehall trends.
