Athlete - Remix & Covers

I used to like Athlete quite a lot. They've got a couple of great singles, 'Wires' and 'Half Light', and other decent tracks. However, I was very disappointed upon first listen of their new single 'Hurricane'. It was unimpressive, dull, and lacks a real chorus. 'Beyond The Neighborhood', their third studio album, is now out in the UK, and since I haven't heard it yet, I can't add anything, but it seems to me they're verging closer towards the arena rock territory à la Coldplay and Snow Patrol - which can now be quite boring.
However, this dancey Camp America remix was able to upgrade the original to something much more listenable.

And while we're at it, here are some nice covers they have recorded live for BBC Radio over the past few years. Enjoy.

  • As a sidenote, Zeon's Music Blog is now listed at The Hype Machine. Finally. Welcome on board, new readers!
  • It's been a long time since I ran a contest here, so there will be one for you guys next Monday.
  • Lastly, the MTVU Woodie Awards i.e. the hip, college version of VMAs is now open for voting. Apparently, they really try to keep up with the trends this year by going indie. No sight of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, which is always a good thing. Among the nomimees are Lily Allen, Peter Bjorn & John, Justice, The Shins, Spoon, and Amy Winehouse. If you're interested, just click on the link and vote for whoever you like. Don't let bands like Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is grab all the awards. Lily Allen really needs to win something. You might as well skip the silly Good Woodie category. (who really wants to vote for the best charity-organization-founded artist anyway?)
